Chianti Classico GRAN SELEZIONE

A new challenge for the black rooster

Precious nectar from our best vineyard plot

Our Gran Selezione is produced with a selection of Sangiovese grapes from the farm’s best vineyard plots.

We have produced this new type of “Black Rooster” wine for the first time with the 2013 vintage, and which was introduced recently by the Chianti Classico Consortium.

It is a monovarietal Sangiovese wine that is fermented in steel and matured in used oak barrels for a period that varies between 24 and 30 months. After the maturation, the wine undergoes a light filtration before being bottled. Then it lies in the bottle for 18 months before being released to the market.

For our family, this is still a wine in the experimental phase that is starting to gradually find its identity and interpreting the territory by means of the Sangiovese  (for the full story, see here). Therefore, we only produce very small quantities so far (max 600 bottles per year) and reserve them for the members of our wine club.
